What will it cost to set-up a new Muffin Break bakery café?
The total investment cost ranges from approximately $250,000 to $350,000 plus GST, the price can vary depending on the location, size and shop-build required. When you purchase a Muffin Break bakery Cafe, your investment is all inclusive, which means your business is ready to go with no extra hidden costs! Once you are set on a location, we can provide an accurate price, so you can confidently plan your investment.
Do you have an on-going royalty fee?
The on-going royalty fee is 7%, plus a 3% marketing fund contribution, both calculated on gross sales and payable weekly to help support brand growth and drive new customers in store.
Do I require any specific food or café experience?
No café experience? No problem! Many of our franchise partners start with no hospitality background. We’ll ensure you receive the training that you need. Of course, any hospitality, customer service or management experience is a bonus but not essential.
What training is provided?
You don’t need café experience to succeed; we’ll teach you everything you need to know. Our comprehensive training program is designed to set you up to operate a bakery cafe for long-term success.

- Online through Muffin Break’s eLearning and communication portal
- At Muffin Break franchise partners’ own business.
Training Overview
Our training course is compulsory for all new franchise partners and consists of:
Pre–CORE 1: Online Muffin Break specific training that covers modules such as: manual handling, emergency procedures, sandwich theory, food safety, barista program, cleaning and customer service.
CORE 1: Is an in-depth two-week program of training and assessment at the Foodco Centre of Retail Excellence in Sydney.
Through classroom style learning, hands-on training and real store experience, franchise partners complete training modules in coffee, both theoretical and technical, kitchen and front of house skills, financial management, HR and staff coaching.
In Store: On the opening or hand-over of a Muffin Break store, franchise partners receive an initial seven days of field support by a minimum of 2 accredited Muffin Break Operational Field Consultants to help you hit the ground running. Franchise partners also continue to log their barista hours and complete further online training modules.
CORE 2: Occurs approximately 6 months post store opening and offers real data finance, customer service and leadership management. In addition to the delivery of the best practices and relevant training to further grow franchisees business and operations.
Do I need citizenship or residency?
Yes, to become a Muffin Break Franchise Partner you will need to hold either permanent residency, be an Australian Citizen or have the VISA requirements to own and run a business in Australia.
What’s the return on investment?
Return on investment can vary depending on store to store and relies on many factors. We share real store performance data with serious applicants once you complete an application, so you can make informed decisions based on actual results.
