Weight - Tips for Weight Management

To maintain a healthy body weight, the amount of kilojoules you take in from food and drinks must be matched by how much energy you burn through daily activities and exercise.  That’s why it is important to look at how many kilojoules you eat, while also making an effort to include physical activity as a regular part of your day.

Foods and drinks to look out for

Foods that come in large portion sizes and are high in added sugar or fats tend to provide lots of kilojoules and are often low in other important nutrients like vitamins and minerals. So reducing the portions and the amounts of these foods that you include in your eating plan is likely to help reduce your total kilojoule intake. This in turn makes it easier to manage your weight.

Including foods that help fill you up while providing plenty of vitamins, minerals and/or fibre  such as fruits, vegetables, nuts, reduced fat dairy products, lean meats and wholegrain bread and cereal foods is a great way to manage your weight. Choosing protein and fibre-rich meals and snacks can help with maintaining a healthy weight because these foods move slowly through the digestive system, therefore helping keep you feeling fuller for longer.

Physical activity

It is important to be active in as many ways as you can throughout the day to maintain a healthy weight.  Along with daily activity, aim to include 30-60 minutes of moderate intensity exercise several days of the week to boost your physical fitness.

Muffin Break’s Weight Watchers and Low Fat muffin varieties are the perfect choice for anyone watching their kilojoule intake, containing less than 18% of your daily kilojoule needs per muffin.
