Muffin Break’s Anna Tikey takes out 3rd place in the UK Barista Championships
Congratulations to Muffin Break’s Anna Tikey who took 3rd place in the UK Barista Championships at Hotelympia on Thursday 23rd February. This was Anna’s first time in the competition and her high score is a reflection of the skill and passion she has for coffee.
Over 66 Baristas from England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales fought it out to see who was number one. After a successful win in the regional heats, Anna spent the following two weeks tirelessly practicing and perfecting her signature coffee – with over 100 hours spent behind the coffee machine. This dedication paid off, as Anna’s performance in the finals was outstanding and this was reflected in her scores.
At the finals each competitor is allowed 15 minutes in which to serve the four judges 4 espresso’s, 4 cappuccino’s and 4 espresso based signature beverages.
Anna’s signature beverage was a layered beverage in a shot glass. The first layer was slightly warmed organic eucalyptus honey which has a bitter-sweet taste. This was then topped with a single shot of espresso. To add some sweetness the third layer consisted of double cream that had been infused with vanilla sugar. Once poured over the back of a spoon the cream actually sat under the crema but on top of the espresso. This produced a visually stunning drink of 4 layers.
Anna’s hard work and dedication paid off as she took out 3rd place in a fiercely competitive field of baristas. This is an outstanding result for this first time entrant!
